Index.hr and fellow Prva Generacija member Matt, have confirmed that 30 year old Croatian international, Ivica Križanac, will be out for the Ukraine match less than a month away. Ivica broke his big toe in training for Zenit yesterday.
HNS has reported that, Križanac will fly out to Croatia on Friday, where he will have his foot in a cast and begin his rehab. As of right now, there is no telling how long Ivica will be sidelined. Doctors Jurice Rakić, Zoran Bahtijarević and Boris Nemec confirmed that these type of injuries take roughly a month to recover.
Ivica has represented Croatia only four times, however, has started all three world cup qualifying matches after the "English nightmare" in Zagreb.
This is a huge blow to Croatia, who already might be without the services of Mladen Petrić, Eduardo Da Silva, and Niko Kranjčar for almost a must win game in Zagreb against Ukraine on June 6th.
Who should start in place of Ivica?

Petric played today for hamburg vs. werder bremen. He should be a go, no?
I think eduardo should be ready for ukraine, at least as a sub.
Can you say "Goran Sablic" ?
Petric should be fit for Ukraine, however, he was nonexistent in today's UEFA Cup match
In an incredibly unpredictable move for such an important match; Bilic brings back none other than Dario Simic!!!
Who's with me on this this one???
Ehhh, I'm just kidding. Bored at work.
How do you guys feel about Vejic?
I agree I think Bilic goes with Robert Kovac on this one and makes Kovac captain. Could be wrong on the whole captain thing but I wouldn't put it past Bilic as Kovac is going to be retiring from the squad soon or after the world Cup possibly as his contract with Dinamo Zagreb expires at the end of next season. But unless his poor form improves he's going to have to quit the squad earlier than he plans to.
ok...if one more croatian player gets injured...i am going to have to start going to sunday morning mass on top of all the praying i am already doing! :0
but to throw in my two cents...(and really!! i know so little..in compared to the football geniuses on this blog..) but yes...i think robert kovac would be called to duty. makes sense....

As for Eduardo I think he'll recover before the game but Bilic isn't going to start him even the chances of being a sub are a maybe as Slaven Bilic himself said Eduardo needs a break. I think Eduardo should try his best to get ready for Ukraine but if he can't play he should aim at being fit for the two matches against Belarus one being in August and the match against England at Wembley. Petric should be back for Ukraine, he played today so hopefully he's fit and in form by June 6th we need all guns to be blazing for that match so we can put Ukraine away. the faster we do it the less pressure we have at Wembley and the more it adds on England. If we beat England they are in trouble because they play Ukraine in Kiev and if they can come close as hell to a draw at Wembley I won't doubt that they can beat them in Kiev somehow.
I'm not a fan of the Kovac start with him now playing with Dinamo in the weak Croatian league.
Would Bilic dare to experiment during the Ukraine game and move a few players to their natural positions. Have Cale and Simunic man the back line while putting Srna and Corluka on the defensive wings.
Pranjic moves up to midfield winger alongside Rakitic with Modric and Juric/Vukojevic in the middle. Olic will run atop alongside Eduardo/Petric.
Cale can't play centre back. He's a full back, but Corluka can play centre and Cale on left. Sablic should replace Krizanac. I don't see anything wrong with your suggestion to bring back Simic. He's better than most of the defenders we have.
Yeah i watched the Hamburg game and that shows that Petric is nowhere near the level of Ivica Olic at the moment. Petric looked like he was forced to play in that match. I thought Olic played well. With the lack of strikers we have at present there is no way Olic can be on the bench. He's scoring goals, linking play and working hard. I think he'll be fine for the Ukraine game. But not on his own. He needs a partner.
At the end of the day Petric, Eduardo and Klasnic have to make the Ukraine game their cup final and work really hard to be able to offer their best for just one game - then they can go on holidays as it doesn't matter what they do at club level as they aren't fit enough to be countered on. They should work with the Ukraine game in mind. Its not really asking much. For Eduardo the game with Ukraine won't be as physical as the Premiership so if he can get as fit as possible then he should be able to get by. I also still think the fifth striker position has to go to Mate Bilic. We need all our players to be able to come on if needed. No room for anyone that isn't up to it. Bilic is definitely up to it for a match against Ukraine. He's been playing in a quick difficult league all season. He'll prob enjoy a slower match playing with better players.
For me this is a no brainer, Sablic in for Krizanac.
On another topic, have you all heard about this?

england barely beat the ukraine. terry deserved red for the broken nose he gave to voronin and rooney should've had red for his above the knees tackle on oliev. england is over-paid shit. in a perfect world, croatia and ukraine both qualify but i hope for a great game and .....of course, molodetz ukraine!
@Vinko Mustapic
great call on Kovac getting captain.
@anonymous
good stuff, come up with a name so we can refer to you in the future.
Sablic was an obvious choice for everyone. Would have been interesting to see what would have been if he wasn't injured.
