HAJDUK ROLL THE DICE ON ITALIAN

Recently sacked Napoli manager Edoardo Reja was introduced to the media as the new Hajduk Split coach today. Edoardo becomes the third manager for Hajduk this season after Ante Miše resigned and Ivica Kalinić was hospitalized with heart problems after his first game in charge. The 63 year old Italian has over 30 years of coaching experience, however, this will be his first try outside of Italy. Reja will be Hajduk's first Italian manager and first foreign manager since Bulgarian Ivan Kolev Vutsov brief spell in 1987.

Edoardo Reja press conference

"It is a great honour for me to come to such a great club as Hajduk. I have seen many trophies for Hajduk in this room and am very familiar with how ardent Hajduk fans are. I could compare them with Napoli fans. We will give our best to become champion next year. It is a great challenge to leave your country after 32 years and try to do something abroad. I will do my best, but do not expect miracle from me because I am not Jesus."
~ Edoardo Reja

Hajduk.com has reported that Edoardo Reja will be making 400,000 Euros for the remainder of the season.

Svaguša addresses the media.

Hajduk fans: Can Edoardo Reja save our season, or at least stop the bleeding?
Dinamo fans: parli Italiano?

oops i foresee potential financial disaster. This coach not being Croatian may go on the hunt for foriegn players. The thing about foriegn players is if they do badly and are under long term contracts they are really hard to get rid of which is why Red Star have a current financial disaster on their hands. Fortunately at Dinamo we bought young guys with potential so only Suarez is a concern for us. I worry this Reja guy might pick up journeyman from abroad and Hajduk may end up with more than one Cernat.
Hajduk lack a structure at the moment. They should have had their young guys out on loan already that are not playing this season and should be scouting the next prospects. I know full well we need to get Zapresic's keeper before them.
Reja could be a good coach if he is told to work with the current squad and forget signings as Hajduk need coaching and organising more than anything else. I don't think they can add much more to what is already a big squad unless they shift out players first. Starting with send away both Brazilians, find new right back, get Ljubijic in team and if selling Ibricic sign a striker.

The guy is a good coach and ten times better than Ante Mise.

I have no problem with a foreign coach as long as the club begins to make a committment to its youth and youth system. The league is so shity that Hajduk will end the season 2nd or 3rd than in part to the 16-team league.

I think Hajduk definitely should build their youth system.

Why they didn't start guys like Ticinovic towards the end of last season is beyond me.

They were going for the title until the tail end of last season. I have no issue not starting Ticinovic as long as he gets consistent minutes from the bench with the occassional start. My biggest problem with hajduk is bringing in guys nobody wants and are past their prime. We know what players like Cernat, Skoko, Andric can do, I want to find out if the younger guys are worth something.

I can handle losing the league if we play dalmatinci and younger players. What i have a problem with is playing like shit with stranci.

To be honest i think you'll do more than lose the league with the current crop of youth. Hajduk only have any hope of turning this around cos of Sharbini's. Mise is not the reason they can't win. Its the strikeforce. It was terrible. Nothing wrong really with the past policy of loan out the players to see how good they are and then only playing the best players. Thats the way to do it. Otherwise its just like playing a young guy just cos he's young and that's all.

At the end of the day facts are facts - Vukusic just can't seem to score even if he was left there for days on end. Tomasov as you've said yourself hasn't done anything. Paraiba is a waste of time plus he is a Gremio player not a Hajduk player so Hajduk will only improve him for their benefit.

Andric and Skoko had a good season last year. But i think have to agree that eventually they'll come a time when the players become way beyond their best and looks like its not far away so really end of season they should be replaced. But if you take all that lot out you can't make comments like you'll definitely finish 2nd or 3rd cos the young players clearly are not better than the other HNL sides. No way are Hajduk's youth better than Zadar etc. That's just not true.

I personally think Hajduk just need organising. They have low confidence levels. They definitely need a right back.

Subasic, Smoje, Vejic, Pandza, Seric; Andric, Skoko, Ljubicic; Anas, Ibricic; Ahmed

Play the above team and they'll be fine with Rodic, Tomasov and Cernat, Rubil, Maloca, Strinic as subs. Send Vukusic out loan to HNL2 for season to get some goalscoring confidence and Ticinovic out on loan to Pula, Sibernik or someone like that. The bottom line for the young guys is they need plenty of games in a less pressured environment.

This coach also don't seem all that foriegn. Sounds like he's lived in Slovenia and speaks some of the language, which is good thing and he will be able to aclimitize relatively quick and will have interest in playing locals.

If they really don't want Josip Skoko, i think this guy particularly is sellable. He has a reputation in England and could easily be signed by a second division side, also has a reputation in Belgium and Turkey and also sides in Australia wouldn't even think twice about taking him. The problem with old players is you don't want them stagnating in the reserves either. Once you signed them you have to use them till they are of no use anymore. Hopefully all those old guys will be out of contract at the end of the season, but as for Skoko i think Hajduk could find a buyer for him. But yeah you don't want a load of Boris Zivkovic's and Rosso's on your hands who never play for the club but take wages. I think they are still good for this season. The young ones all need to improve their game though and should go out on loan. NK Zagreb is a great example of a decent bunch of young players who are being made to look worse than they are cos they have no experienced heads to guide them.

Well said Ziva Istina

Yeah and then you'll moan that Croatian clubs never do anything in Europe and that HNL1 is so bad and how if only we were like Arsenal that seem to possess no English players in team most weekends. If you want to play young local rubbish for the sake of it, don't moan about the leagues standard and the Euro results. I mean this Cernat business is a bit over the top as well as he's definitely not responsible for Hajduk dropping and did well for Hajduk in his past spell. Its the young kids that can't score and the young defenders that can't defend. The absence of Marijan Buljat is so massive anyone can see it. From what i seen the experienced ones like Skoko and Ibricic are the only ones functioning. Anyway you just signed Duje Cop who is a decent young forward that was previously at Hajduk. Hopefully this will keep you happy. Yes he's come back from abroad where he never played but is only 20.

Regards Dinamo's Stranci:
I also believe some of our signings this summer were just best we can do at this moment in time. We wanted to sign Manuel Pamic for example, but Red Bull have an loan agreement with Sparta Prague that does not run out till the winter. Plus its not certain if Red Bull are willing to sell. That's why we took Cufre as there is no other quality Croatian left back worth buying. Plus we'll analysing the Pikaric who is playing each week at our feeder club.

As for strikers Papa at 27 is the right age to sign. He's not over the hill and he's not unfit. You can claim that perhaps we could have given Croats like Vrucina or Ahmad Sharbini a chance, but they are unproven at UEFA cup level which is where we want to be, yet Papa has big match experience. Also we are trying to bring through Kramaric and to a lesser extent Sivonjic so we do have Croat strikers. If anyone Slepicka was our real big mistake as we've got no room for him anywhere. We need to sell him whilst he is still rated in Czech Republic.

Re Hajduk's Stranci - I believe Cernat really was supposed to step in after Ibricic was sold, but Ibricic hasn't yet gone and they never expected to get Anas. I think Ibricic will soon go and Cernat will have to step in for him. They could ask Tomasov and Ticinovic to step in, but realistically i can't see them making any impression. Their is talk of Perisic arriving meaning team by end of transfer deadline could be

Subasic, Buljat, Vejic, Pandza, Seric; Perisic, Skoko/Ljubicic, Andric, Anas; Ahmad & Cop/Cernat
