He was left on the bench again today in a 4-0 Panathinaikos win. For those of you interested in Greece, Rukavina came on in the 74th minute of play. Unless Runje goes down to injury, Runje is our man.

@Dinamofan

Yes, I would start Subasic against Qatar. He barely even uses it. I don't agree at all that he is always on left side. Yes he occasionally is on the left here and there, but that's where he's had all his worst games. When Raki was in his first season in Germany he was on the right. I used to watch Bundesliga each week in the first season and Raki was ever hardly on the left. Last season Schalke's team was a mess so can really discount the position Raki was playing. Everyone was all over the place. Bilic uses Raki on the left as he doesn't dare drop Dario Srna and cos Kranjcar has been injured or filling Modric's role. However coincidence maybe that when he had them all fit for once then he used Rakitic on the right wing in the first match against Belarus - and Rakitic in response flew down the right wing and set up Eduardo. If we play Rakitic on left wing he'll only come inside as he's right footed. He can't hit the left byline and cross with his left foot as that's usually impossible. If you constantly play right footers on left side then they always come inside. Kranjcar does it, but it don't matter regards Kranjcar cos he is playmaker rather than a winger anyway. Its rare Kranjcar every goes to the byline at all. Even if he was on the right he'd try to cut inside.

If we play Rakitic down the right wing we will get the best out of him. But when everyone is fit Rakitic will be on the bench anyway. Also if we regard Rakitic as a left wing then there is no room for Anas Sharbini. That means Drago Gabric should be in Croatia's squad ahead of Sharbini.

I keep on hearing people mention that Rakitic is n...

I keep on hearing people mention that Rakitic is naturally right footed and that is where he belongs. Felix Magath is by far the best coach that Schalke has seen while Rakitic has been there. This is the 3rd straight coach, 4th overall (one was a caretaker manager when Slomka was fired) that has continued to use Ivan on the Left side. If we count Bilic, that also makes 5 managers. I have to wonder if they know something we dont. Danijel Prskalo is a young Croatian forward that was bought by Schalke in the summer. This guy was hand picked by Magath himself. He is out with their reserve team now, but, this may be the Croat that makes a lasting impression on that club.

Magath wants to give a young Georgian guy named Ke...

Magath wants to give a young Georgian guy named Kemia a chance. If we look at Schalkes league position we can hardly argue. Also just like at Spurs and Hajduk there seems no planning to the signings Schalke made. They had Asamoah who plays right side, Altintop plays right side, Farfan plays right side and Rakitic plays right side. You can't have like 4 first team players who all play on the same position. Magath is trying to bring balance to do the team and although that's not suiting Rakitic it is the best thing for Schalke cos there team was all over the place last year. Rakitic would fit perfectly at Hamburg. A winter transfer would be excellant. In contrast to Schalke Hamburg are short on right sided players. They have Pitriopa who works hard but is not Rakitic standard. Also they have Jarolim who is 32 now. With his friend Petric there as well, he'd fit perfectly in Hamburg. For the national team i don't think he should be dropped cos his output since Euro 2008 has still been high. He hasn't been at his best all games, but much of what has been scored so far has come through him.

The common denominator in all of the problems that...

The common denominator in all of the problems that Rakitic has had for the past 3 years has been Ivan. Its the fact that both forwards have exceptional footwork for a forward. I will use the compliment of exceptional footwork very loosely, for Jelavic. I have not seen enough of him to shower him with such praise. I have followed Boksic since I was very young, he was my all time favorite Croatian player. The only player I can compare him to today would be Mirko Vucinic or to a lesser extent Wayne Rooney. Players that are willing to do some hard work in midfield and play comfortably with the ball at their feet. Neither needs to be set up for an easy goal like the classic poacher. Both can create their own opportunities or opportunities for their team mates. When healthy, Alen ran Italian and French defenses raged. Definitely was ahead of his time, he was a Hybrid between a striker and a midfielder.

Again, I use all those comparisons and praises very, very loosely with regards to Jelavic.

Yeah Milan Badelj is Zvonimir Boban. hehe only kid...

Yeah Milan Badelj is Zvonimir Boban. hehe only kidding..

Newcastle were horribly mismanaged for years. I've...

Newcastle were horribly mismanaged for years. I've never heard of a club which is financially rich and not in need to sell players that gets relegated. Owner Mike Ashley did everything wrong including appointing Joe Kinnear when he was off work for years after a heart attack and then they bring him in and guess what he has another heart attack.. In England there was two or three partnerships where the director of football and manager of the team were in dispute. Not only in Newcastle, but Tottenham and Portsmouth when Zajec unsettled Redknapp. It don't work in England.

Keegan's appointment was a bit of a joke. Newcastle fans are so one dimensional. They only believe Keegan or Shearer should manage the club. Keegan walks away all the time when things get tough, but whats more funny is that he said he didn't want to come back to football as had other business interests going on. But Newcastle did a Papadopoulos on him and gave him the biggest contract ever. Even now when Newcastle are top of second division they still think they should appoint Shearer even though he get barely any managerial experience. I think Newcastle did same with Xisco. Keegan shouldn't get anything though cos he walked out.

These comparison to Boskic are insane. However, curious if you have been following the story of Kevin Keegan whining his case against Newcastle for constructive dismissal? Apparently, all Keegan had to look at was a Youtube clip that shows the same two goals from like 10 different angles. I have heard the constant Boksic comparisons. @ Vinko Mustapic - You are correct. The style between the two cannot be ignored. I will say this though, A) Perhaps we cannot look at his striking rate alone. Yes, some will laugh and say, well, isnt that how we judge strikers? Nobody on this site, me included has seen more than 4 of his live games in the past 4 years. If you say that you have watched 4 live Rapid Vienna games I will have to call you a liar, assuming that you do not live in Vienna and have season tickets. What I am trying to say is, perhaps he brings other intangibles with him. Yeah, i know I will get blasted for that. I will also say this,

I HAVE NOT AGREED WITH MANY OF THE MOVES SLAVEN BILIC HAS MADE SINCE EURO 2008.

Okay, that being said, yes, I agree with people like DinamoFan and Ziva Istina. It seems something else is being looked at when some of these guys are getting called up. We cannot ignore the pattern with some of these call ups and then the fact they are completely ignored once they get their move away from the HNL. Its done, the guy has been called up, lets just try and keep an open mind and see if the guy does bring something new and fresh to the National Team. In all likelihood he will not be on the bench. DinamoFan, my friend, you need to calm down a bit. I am not happy with it as well, trust me, you know I have been talking up Ilicevic, Perisic and Rukavina for a long time. Slaven Bilic is going to give you a heart attack at this rate.
