GIRIČEK SIGNS FOR FENERBAHČE

Gordan Giriček, a six year NBA veteran, this morning, signed a two year contract with Turkish giants Fenerbahče. Turkish newspaper Tajansspor, has reported that the contract also has a clause, where Giriček can opt-out after next season if he wishes. Gordan, 31, had offers for more money, but the source said he would prefer playing somewhere closer to Zagreb.

"What I wished for has come true," said Gira. "I will play in the Euroleague and with this I am satisfied. I haven't met the team yet, however, I am familiar with coach Tanjević. On the financial side, I am very content," concluded Gordan.

Gordan, speaking as a Lakers fan, I am happy to see you leave the Suns. However, I wish you the absolute best and hope that you excel in Euroleague next season.

ROKO SIGNS FOR TORONTO RAPTORS

Remember a while back......ohhhh...January 31, 2008.

Ukić

The Toronto Raptors signed Croatian guard Roko Leni Ukić to a three-year deal Wednesday. The Croatian point guard's agent, Marc Cornstein, met Raptors president/general manager Bryan Colangelo yesterday and finalized the contract.

Ukić, 22, was the Raptors’ second-round pick (41st) in the 2005 draft, played 19 games for Italy's Lottomatica Virtus Roma last season, averaging 11.5 points, 2.8 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 29.3 minutes a game.

He began his professional career in 2000 with KK Split in Croatia, where he spent four seasons. He played in Spain for two more years, winning the Spanish national championship twice.

Welcome Roko!

Roko, I wish you all the best next season. Hopefully, the Raptors go 80-2 this season, with both losses coming against the Lakers.

GORDAN GIRIČEK IN ACTION FOR SUNS

Gordan Giriček was in action for the Phoenix Suns tonight.

As much as I dislike the Suns, Gira looks good in a Phoenix uniform.

Exclusive first look at Gordan Giriček in a Suns uniform.

GORDAN GIRIČEK SIGNS WITH PHOENIX

As reported last week on CSR, the Phoenix Suns made it official today and signed guard Gordan Giriček to a contract for the rest of the season.

Giriček, waived by the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, joins his fifth NBA team. The 6-foot-6 Croatian played parts of six seasons with Memphis, Orlando and Utah before being traded to Philadelphia on December 29th.

Suns general manager Steve Kerr called the 30-year-old Giricek “an excellent shooter, a solid defender and a proven playoff performer.”

Ironically, Giriček, who scored a career-high 33 points at US Airways Center against his new team on March 12, 2004, has established career averages of 9.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 23.2 minutes in 362 games.

Gordan will fit in perfectly with Shaq, Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns. Hopefully, Gira will fill in the 3-point shooting void after James Jones left to Portland.

GORDAN GIRIČEK CUT BY SIXERS

The Philadelphia 76ers waived veteran Croatian guard Gordan Giriček today.

Acquired alongside a first-round pick from the Utah Jazz on December 29 in a deal for Kyle Korver, Giriček played in just 12 games with the Sixers, averaging 3.1 points and 1.2 rebounds.

Giriček, the only Croatian in the NBA this year, is making $4 million in the final year of his contract.

In his sixth season, the 6'6" Giriček has career averages of 9.6 points and 2.5 rebounds in 362 games.

CSR has inside information on a possible Phoenix home for the Croatian star.

As a Laker fan, I would not want to see 'Gira' in the clockwork orange. However, Giriček still has plenty left in him and I wish him the best wherever his next destination might be.
