ROKO SIGNS FOR TORONTO RAPTORS

Remember a while back......ohhhh...January 31, 2008.

Ukić

The Toronto Raptors signed Croatian guard Roko Leni Ukić to a three-year deal Wednesday. The Croatian point guard's agent, Marc Cornstein, met Raptors president/general manager Bryan Colangelo yesterday and finalized the contract.

Ukić, 22, was the Raptors’ second-round pick (41st) in the 2005 draft, played 19 games for Italy's Lottomatica Virtus Roma last season, averaging 11.5 points, 2.8 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 29.3 minutes a game.

He began his professional career in 2000 with KK Split in Croatia, where he spent four seasons. He played in Spain for two more years, winning the Spanish national championship twice.

Welcome Roko!

Roko, I wish you all the best next season. Hopefully, the Raptors go 80-2 this season, with both losses coming against the Lakers.

CROATIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY SOCCER TOURNAMENT

I would like to invite all Croatians to come participate in the

2nd ANNUAL CROATIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY
SMALL GOALS TOURNAMENT

Saturday, May 24, 2008
San Pedro, CA - Field of Dreams
(San Pedro is located 20 minutes south of Downtown Los Angeles)

There will be two divisions to participate in:
1st Division- Competitive
2nd Division- Recreational

Games will consist of 5 field players and 1 goalie.
Teams will play a minimum of 3 games.
All games will be played on Saturday.

Last year's inaugural tournament was a huge success. There was a total 12 teams that came out to play. A majority of the teams came from San Pedro, but I would like to thank again all of you that came from Rolling Hills, Los Angeles, Orange County and especially West Coast Croats who made the trip down from San Jose. Hopefully we see you all again this year.

The weekend will be full of festivities. Nothing is set in stone yet, but we are planning to hold an after-tournament get-together at a local bar/club. That Sunday, Hrvatski Dom will be hosting its annual Croatian Independence Day block party. Fresh čevape off the grill, beer, dancing and live music by Zrinski until the late hours of the night.

We would love to see Croatians from all over North America come and represent their cities (San Jose, Phoenix, Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Toronto, Vancouver).

If you plan to be in town that weekend but don't have a team, please do not hesitate to contact us as we will find a spot for you no matter what your skill level may be.

To register or get more information, please leave us a comment below and we will respond immediately.

We look forward to having another successful weekend that brings together Croatians from Southern California as well as the rest of the country. Below is a brief overview of the weekend schedule that will be taking place during the Croatian Independence Day Celebration.
